George Washington Carver didn't invent peanut butter. It was just one of many peanut-based products he promoted in an effort to get people to do crop rotation and make the South less poor.

Anyway, it wouldn't be much of an invention. In its original form (and his version), we're just talking about peanuts mashed to a fine paste.

He did invent processes to make a variety of products out of peanuts, but his main productive work was to write agricultural pamphlets, spreading useful information (which he didn't figure out himself) to end-users. As far as I can tell, none of his original inventions were put to much use.
