/sci/ I'm doing GR right now and those big fucking computations are really annoying (pic related).
I'm too lazy sometimes to go through all that shit.
what do you do, when you deal with shit like this (especially how do you take notes on them without writing all that shit)?
what should textbook publisher do to make it more comfortable to follow their thoughts?

I've never seen this outside of GR (had to redo Chandrasekhar black hole calculations for a class), maybe there are similar issues in QFT. I thought it was valuable to do it by hand once, but I wouldn't want to repeat it.

Try to find a computer algebra package. Mathematica student edition seems to be $140, although I don't know if this will run the GR packages or not.

I've used Mathematica with packages, and I also implemented simple Christophel symbol calculations myself. Works just fine.
