I do consider myself to be pretty good at these, shame I can't say that it extrapolates well to my college work.

On a side note, I took the Mensa admission test a couple of years ago, and passed pretty comfortably, but obviously IQ doesn't mean all that much past a point, so the actual score is kinda irrelevant.

oh, and 15 will be ca[ital V.
it alternates uppercase to lower case as you go, and just convert letters into what number they are in the aplphabet

2,4,8,14
so its:
add 2, add 4, add 6, add 8, add 10, etc

14+8 = 22
V is the 22nd letter, and it needs to be capital this time, as last one was lowercase.

I'm not sure if these are right but here are the patterns I personally saw.
4. 1 , 3 , 1*4, 3*2, 1*4*4, 3*2*2 so 12
5. 1248, (1+2)(2+4)(4+8).... 1610, (1+6)(6+1)(1+0) or 771
7. 2, 2*2-1, 3*2-1... 17*2-1 or 33
15. B, B+2 letter, C+4 letters, H+6 letters... N+8 letters which is V

Do the first one, it's much better. Me and the first poster only got one answer wrong which isn't a big difference from you but number one is a bit more challenging. i got 38/40 in it but I did it in at least 35 minutes (max is 40 minutes).

it's always those 2 things alternating, with an extra multiplication on the end.

so next one will be blue4, red 1 (blank counts as a space, so it counts to 7 and then resets)

The thing is, all patterns lead to the same answer. They study this shit before they give it and make sure all the possible patterns give the same answer.
Also, you should never look too deep into them because they will ever give something that a three year old won't understand.
