Not the guy you're responding to, but it makes sense. Say it's dark and I need light. If I know how to make a fire, I can do that. But if someone has invented matches, a lightbulb, an electric torch, etc., my need to know how to build a fire is very minimal, since light is as easy as the press of a button.

Think camping and survival in the wilderness, and all the stuff we don't need to do because other people have found easier ways for us to live. This applies to everything, when you think about it.
