Always thought I'd be hot shit as a quant.

>mfw after taxes I make <$10k a month
>mfw I can only afford a $3k/month apt.
>mfw I see $3k apt. in Manhattan
>mfw cab fare
>mfw no time to cook and always eat out
>mfw I can't afford a face

>manhattan

I'm was kinda surprised when I realised that a lot of hard working, reasonably high flying people in finance make less than I do, sitting at home doing technical writing when I feel like it. 10-35k per month after tax.

For every one person on the crazy big bucks, there are ten one level down on the big bucks. For each of them, there are 20 on the moderate bucks. Each of those stands over 30 intelligent relatively recent graduates working their butts off and barely able to afford to live and get to work every day. People who can work the numbers don't get into finance.

how is this even science? gtfo, no one gives a shit about your life, not even the people actually in it.

>technical writer

holy shit, there's really no shame at all anymore.

It's fast paced, stressful, and way more fun than a postdoc would have been. The models are definitely not scientific, but the computation and programming is.

I always knew I wanted to go industry. It's not for everyone, but it definitely shouldn't be written off so quickly.
