The future light cone of any event within the event horizon of the black hole is entirely within the event horizon of the black hole. ds^2=0 is a cone with decreasing radius for increasing time.

Actually mass is irrelevant when trying to leave an objects gravitational field. It's the speed that matters. "Escape velocity" is the technical term. Mass only determines the energy needed to reach the necessary velocity by acceleration.

So in case of black holes, coming back beyond the event horizon would require a velocity greater than the speed of light, which is impossible to achieve because of the infinite energies required. Also, the "insides" of a black hole aren't understood, so it might actually even be impossible to say _why_ exactly it is impossible to "escape" one. Mathematics say that beyond the event horizon, time and space "switch roles", ie you get to the event horizon and for you, you remain there for an eternity (which isn't the case, in reality, because you'ld be ripped to shreds well before).

There are some more interesting points on this topic, but the hour is late and I don't have any actual education in physics yet, so I'll just leave it at here.
