Hi /sci/, after watching a documentary about LSD, i wonder: What if a physicist (or some of them) took an appropriate dose of it?

The common users of this drug are hopeless young adults that haven't went past high school, and normally they ain't got shit in the brains but wanting to be and look cool. I think that's the reason they see elephants and flying trees and those shits.
But wouldn't a physicist, or even other kinda of scientist whose his field requires deep thinking, experience things about that?
Idk, i never took this drug nor heard about any scientist taking it but i'm wondering.

What are you, 12 years old? People from all walks of life do psychedelics.

As to your question, yes, smart people tend to think smart things on LSD. Personally I'm a mathematician, and I occasionally do psychedelics including LSD - I have on occasion had insights whilst on LSD or psilocybin that have allowed me to overcome obstacles related to my research. While you're less inclined to sit and work hard, it allows you to see things from a perspective that is otherwise unavailable to you, and you may solve problems you otherwise could not as a result.

Many scientists make use of this effect.

Hear hear.

Whenever you seek fun, you're trying to trick your body into flooding your brain with certain chemicals for your own entertainment. Doing drugs is just being more direct and more careful about it.

Cheap too, so theres no money in it, and not many suppliers. Theres a lot of politics in it.

Anyways, double helix (frances crick) and this guy use acid, so I wouldn't say that just yet.

I said COMMON users.

I find it hard to believe that scientists would use this drug since there are proven drawbacks that could occur after using it, I'm talking about paranoia, depression and stuff like that.

Personally, I would like to try it, but i do not because i'm scared of the effects, and I read that being scared while taking it makes it more likely to have a bad trip and flip out.

Alcohol and LSD, possibly. Alcohol is a common drug, and LSD isn't particularly harmful as long as you have someone with you to prevent you from doing stupid things while tripping. Anyone with half a brain, though, knows that cocaine will fuck you up and will probably stay away from it.

Op stereotypes. History has a few named smart people sourcing their break throughs with psychedelics.Thats just the ones known

Psychedelics just create a profound experiences, boundary disillusionment, looking at shit differently.

Correlation doesn't imply causation dumbshit. It's because children from wealthy families (aka not below the poverty line) are both more likely and have the funding to abuse drugs, compared to a poor family. Children from rich families have higher IQs.

And using a loose correlation to justify your drug use is pathetic. If you need drugs to 'see things from a new perspective' I'm guessing your life isn't going so well.

LSD is literally playing Russian Roulette with your brain. For most people it does no harm and they're OK, maybe even a bit better afterwards. For some people it fucks them up so bad that they're not the same person afterwards. I don't think it's worth the risk, personally.

I know a lot of people hate the whole correlation-cause thing, but I just realized something.

I was really good friends with this guy from secondary school, and he started doing pot, and a bit of coke here and there and some psychedelics. Anyway he was intelligent, had a great aptitude for solving puzzles as well, he fucking loved Rubik's cubes, and not just the standard 3x3x3, he had some other crazy ones. I think because he started doing drugs at the wrong time in his life he ended up pissing it all away. I still think to this day that he could have really applied himself. Haven't heard from him for a while

Think about it, Mathematicians and Physcists do what they do because they love the challenge. They love the challenge of learning a certain method and applying it in other situations. The ultimate goal - to solve the problem and find the answer. However to solve a problem, the person needs to think differently, they need to take various mental paths to reach the end goal.

People who take drugs often do so to escape reality, to enter a new system of thought. Stuff like DMT and Acid can 'unlock' your brain allowing you to think and perceive things differently.

So ultimately it would make sense that people who study things like Maths and Physics would probably be the likely consumer of drugs

Not just popular music. Wagner wrote most of his operas in drug-induced stages. Orchestral musicians are notorious for having coke parties in the green room before shows and during intermissions

Drugs have always been a HUGE part of human culture, and pretending that "Drugs are bad m'kay" is retarded. The only difference between acid and other drugs is that acid is only possible with (somewhat) modern chemistry. If there was any drug scientists were going to do, I think it would be LSD considering they invented it

There is probably something wrong with me in this "drugs shows new perspectives", i am a artist who sell oil paintings, used to smoke pot and did shrooms once, fact was when i had this routine i was a passable artist at least, i noticed that when im sober for long periods i have more creative ideas for paintings, and dedicate myself more to it, trying to make something beatifull and meaningfull instead of just "LOL pretty collors, that's trippy".
But reading this thread im thinking if this is somehow exclusive to me.

I was a pro musician for a while, and I noticed this as well with my band mates. When everyone was clean and sober, we were fantastic. When they were stoned (I never did drugs), they would think our practice and recording sessions were fantastic, and that they were musical gods. I, on the other hand, thought they played like shit. Shrooms were the worst, but even one joint before a jam session was enough to reduce its quality significantly.

The Doors of Perception is a 1954 book by Aldous Huxley detailing his experiences when taking mescaline. The book takes the form of Huxley’s recollection of a mescaline trip that took place over the course of an afternoon, and takes its title from William Blake's poem The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. Huxley recalls the insights he experienced, which range from the "purely aesthetic" to "sacramental vision".He also incorporates later reflections on the experience and its meaning for art and religion.
