Is psychology just a higher abstraction layer of biology, specified to humans?
I'm using the term "Abstraction layer" as it is used in CS.

I'm not sure you understand the term "abstraction layer".
No actually let me rephrase that.
I am sure you don't understand the term "abstraction layer"

And that is /sci/ in a nutshell.
And then some posters talk about it being a qualitative board.
It's just /b/, science edition.
You can create memes about science, troll about science, say idiotic shit about science, hate certain things about science, etc..

im just asking you how do they relate
biology doesn't care about perception, language, etc
psychology doesn't care about cells, mytochondria, ATP synthesis, etc

>> No.4875140

>>4875131
This is just not true. Please take a closer look at intermediate fields. Say, neurology, cognitive science.

Psychology will never be a science because the human mind is too fucked and abstract to ever come to concrete conclusions about it's functioning

>> No.4875157

>>4875151
science is but a method, the conclusions are irrelevant to the label.

>> No.4875167

Psychology is more than just biology because we got ourselves culture and with that we got a bunch of new anxieties and fears. We are constantly transfering values from one thing to the other, so people end up confused. The confusion is not on the surface, so the psychologist has to clear things up, analysing language, images, expectations and so on.

Psychology is a process, a way to think and a way to deal with problems. It is not a science, but it's not outside science.

>> No.4875175

>calling psychology "not science"
>ignoring the fact that many sciences evolved from pseudo-science forms (e.g., chemistry evolved from alchemy)

Just because the human mind is still poorly understood doesn't mean psychology is all bullshit. Or maybe weirdos are criticizing psychology as a means of deflecting unfavorable psychological assessments of themselves?

Easy to make such pronouncements. Science, however, proves them wrong. The sad thing is, ofc, that people who make that kind of pronouncements about fields are almost never acquainted with the field in question.

>> No.4875260

Psychology itself isn't biology, take freudian and humanistic psychology, they have nothing to do with biology.

But psychologists accept that the brain and the mind are essentially the same thing, so biological psychology is a huge thing in modern psychology.

Actually, psychology is much better than alchemy in a lot of ways. Alchemy was an spiritual quest and it was about controlling matter, but without ever trying to understand it.

Psychologist, regardless of what /sci/ thinks of their results, actually care about saying something that makes sense. They are trying to elucidate the mind.

>>4875260
Freudian psychology is perhaps the most biological of them all. Freud is what happends if you take Darwin as the core of everything and use that to understand the mind.
