How bad of an idea is it to try and major in physics while also minoring in some form of engineering?

>> No.4833669

>>4833658
i'll rephrase:
How bad of an idea is it to be a god-tier engineer?

>> No.4833665

I would major in engineering and minor in physics or double major.

>> No.4833675

There is nothing really bad about it, it's just a way to live, we are not homophobic.

You're not me.

>>4833675
Yes you are I've seen the threads.

I assume double major is twice as hard?

>> No.4833715

assuming its possible, major in engineering and minor in physics, however beware, the pure physics courses are probably useless if you dont plan on going on to grad school

>>4833715
>major in engineering and minor in physics, not the other way around

Seems to be the general consensus.

>the pure physics courses are probably useless if you dont plan on going on to grad school

Yeah I heard that, I'll try and be careful.

>> No.4833774

pure math faggot

>> No.4833798

OP you should just dual major in two engineering disciplines. Disregard science, acquire money.

Mining / geotechnical engineering daul major btw.

>>4833658
What is your goal OP? Could be overkill

>> No.4833825

>>4833809
My end goal is to learn cool shit and make cool shit. At the moment I'm not interested in money as long as I can survive so I don't really care about the debt.

I might be an idiot and I don't know how realistic this goal is.

Your first step is to figure out what is cool shit you'd like to work on specifically. If you already go to a university, go to the physics and engineering departments and ask to see and review their current research and experiments, as well as the reports they generate. That should help you figure out what you like and what only looks cool as an outsider.

I have experience on this, friend of mine started as a chemistry major, switched three times to finish in electrical engineering. I started in chemical engineering in hopes of working in a nanotech lab, figured out I hate the life of academia, and went mechanical engineering for breadth and to develop my ideas for inventions.

This is a really good idea, thank you.

No prob, hope you find yourself working in something you love and are challenged in

How hard is it to get into grad school for physics? Generally speaking.

>> No.4833938

Is the "major/minor" thing an American thing, or does it have a European equivalent?

Sorry, I really know jack shit about higher education ATM, just trying to get a general picture.

I'm from the US so I don't know, but here is a bump so maybe someone will see your question.
