Are black holes 2d or 3d? Would we be able to tell by visual observation?

>> No.4790778

The event horizon is a sphere; it is 3D, derp

>> No.4790794

a black hole is not an abstraction; only abstractions can be 2d.
a black hole is a region of effect caused by matter, affecting matter, and 'seen' only by its affects on nearby matter and the radiation that pours from it.

the reason it is often shown as a spinning pool isn't that it is big and very flat, but that tide effects cause a non-spherical collection of matter nearby.

Technically everything in the physical world is always in the Third Dimension, no exceptions.

The Second Dimension is merely a concept.

the 1st 2nd and 3rd dimensions are the same. we live in all three, not just the 3rd

the event horizon is the surface of a sphere,

the weird thing is though is that we can see all of it, front and back, from any particular vantage point, because of gravitational lensing

Since black holes don't actually exist, what does it matter?

The singularity is an impossibility dreamed up by an infant race of pink hairless apes that have barely ventured off the grain of sand they were born on. It's a mathematical construct based on a faulty model of physics that hasn't stood the test of time.

You wanna know what dark matter and dark energy are? They are mathematical fixes because the models we have of the universe do not fit reality and we are too stubborn to see they are fundamentally flawed.

Are you guys legit?
Everything boils down to energy, which takes representation of little tiny blobs, or spheres.

The theory behind all that is still theory, which models within the realms of the 2nd Dimension.

Space-time is 4d, but inside the black hole space-time breaks down. That is, there is an edge to the 4d space inside the black hole. Physics as we know it doesn't apply there.

A black hole affects the space around it in all dimensions, just like all massive bodies. The spin of the mass will create a torque on entering matter that will form an accretion disk, a plane of gasses circling, like Saturn's rings. Perpendicular to the disk may be jets of plasma if the mass is 'devouring' something. These jets are caused by spiraling material that degenerates and jets out due to tidal forces.

you are confusing a black hole's event horizon with its singularity, which probably doesn't exist

>> No.4790831

The only way a black hole can exist is if you treat spacetime as a single 4D manifold.

So, a black hole is a 4D object. (And so are you.)

What's the 4th, 5th, and 6th dimensions? I'm new here.
4th is time?
5th is?
6th is?

Dimensions aren't numbered. Spacetime is 4D.

>> No.4790898

5th and 6th dimensions are colloquially known as hyperspace, or subspace. They are measurements in higher (or lower, usually higher) states of energy that space can be warped into. They exist as extrapolations of normal spacetime and are represented in science fiction as means of FTL communication and travel.

In the lowest energy state there are 4. length, breadth, width, and duration. The dimension of duration is the hardest to experience because the entropic nature of the universe propels matter in one direction along the axis. If there was no entropic imbalance created when the super state collapsed, we'd be able to experience time as we do space (how weird would THAT be eh?).
By raising or lowering the energy state, spacetime can contort into forms with added dimensions creating pockets of hyper- or subspace.

First explain away the observational evidence of black holes. Then replace general relativity.

Shouldn't take long for a person with such attitude.

Nobody ever said dark energy and dark matter could not be flaws in GR but insisting they are because you can't see them is faith.
