Protip for Science:

Did you know that one of the words you type in the capcha, is not actually a word to validate you are a human?

Google takes one of the words (usually the screwed up weirder looking one) and is therefore using your capcha typing skills as part of a clossal OCR distributed collection system with you as the work unit!

tldr; google is using you to translate google book scans (the more difficult bits for machines to analyze) into machine readable text.

I'm not a fan of mathematics or physics, I mean, they are great, I can see how you could enjoy them in the same way I can see how somebody might like playing board games or bridge, but don't identify with them myself.

The kind of science I enjoy, involves networks. e.g. economics, biology.

I like complex adaptive systems. While the math and physics involves fearsome complexity to the human mind, physics is fundamentally more simple than chemistry, which is simpler than biology and so on.

I'm not going for a hurr durr, my science is better than yours here, but it seems to me that there is a sense in which discoveries in the harder sciences are easier because metrics are easier to use, systems remain relatively consistent over time/space.

Contrawise, a discovery in economics or computer science is more difficult I think, because both are systems which change upon feedback informing the science itself of the discovery. Most of the difficulties in doing science in these areas are to do with a feedback loop leading to a information arms race e.g. cryptography being a clear example where discovery implies adaptation.

Also; they are now able to control the water gliders to an accuracy of 3 meters. I calculated it would take 83 days to travel from me to New Brunswick in Canada. Beats the hell out of message in a bottle.
