IF we could travel faster than light and get to the boundary of the universe what would happen? Could we still go into empty space or would there be a wall or black hole or some shit

>> No.4762001

Its unknown.

If I could lasso the moon with my own dick, what would happen? If we could go further north than the north pole, what would happen?

Faster than speed of light travel is not possible. Ever.

>> No.4762010

can't get past the border, there is nothing to go into or beyond

what is so hard to understand? the universe is most probably simulated, and just like in a game when you reach the end of the map, that's it.

>hurr durr simulation

its been proven by nick bostrom

>> No.4762025

well the outside of the universe is completely empty aka a true vacuum, so most likely you would be pulled out into it with such force that you cannot escape.

i remember that stupid 'proof', it was based on the incorrect assumption that an infinitesimally small percentage is the same thing as zero, or something like that. or am I thinking of something else?

>>4762010

in a video game the only thing keeping you from walking out into blackness infinitely is artificially constructed boundaries. nothing but ever increasing and decreasing x and y values.

you would loop around until you got back where you started. but the whole thing is a crock of shit unless you drink enough slimfast to have negative mass.

the proof is correct the dude has a phd in stats

don't even bother arguing with it, you wouldn't understand the justification

>> No.4762049

the theory i heard is that when there is no longer sufficient gravity to force the universe into being 'normal' aka how it is here, the universe collapses in on itself and while you could technically continue traveling infinitely far away from the normal universe, the boundary conditions would destroy you and space becomes infinitely compressed, so traveling light years as you perceive it is actually only like, an atom's breadth of actual travel, if you know what i mean

so, if you hit the edge of the universe, the universe kills you and mocks you with an infinite death screen

you can't travel into non-existence

by definition, you can only travel in space, across time

the universe is all that exists (Definitional)

so if you somehow manage to travel into some other dimension, then ipso facto you are still in "the Universe"

>the universe is the totality of all that exists

definition ^

hes got a masters in philosophy, and physics
did his thesis in the math department on computational neuroscience

also did shit in astrophysics department at masters level

then went to london school econ and got phd in philosophy

he knows more math than anyone on /sci/

its a definition

if something exists, its part of the universe, no way around it

>So because he said he proved the universe is a simulation it must be true.

You are an idiot for blindly following what someone says if it is completely outlandish just because they say it's true. If you don't understand it yourself, okay, but to start believing it just because you think it sounds good is dumb.

LMFAO. He hasn't proved shit. Shitty phil is shityy phil, not science, not math, and no where near a proper "proof".

I doubt you even know what a "proof" is.

THIS. The idea that someone, no matter their knowledge of math, could give a rigorous proof that the universe is a simulation is idiotic. Anyone who believes it is stupid and doesn't understand what a mathematical proof is
