Does /sci/ ever research what they eat and adjust your diet to get desirable effects other than standard weight loss dieting?

For example, I've heard that protein in the morning helps regulate blood sugar throughout the day and that eating chicken or turkey with lots of carbs for dinner helps you sleep because the carbs greatly increase your blood sugar, causing a rise in insulin which filters out all the stuff competing with the tryptophan from the chicken/turkey, aiding the feeling of sleepiness.

The body is a complex machine that can be tuned by ingesting the right chemicals.

I can't be the only one who looks at their food more deeply than following the food pyramid.
