once it's get more expensive, alternative energy will become viable

but countries that depend very much on selling oil will be screwed, lol Arabs

Yeah biofuels are sustainable at about $5 a gallon, so our real challenge is how to make electricity in 200 years when we start to run out of coal.

Lol google shale we have enough to be on oil for another century once the technology improves, which it's expected to within the next decade

I'm just worried about China industrializing. Nearly 2billion gas-guzzling gooks.

Either way, it's the same as every other finite resource. The cartels that control it adjust the price for maximum profitability, and when it becomes no longer viable on the horizon, a handful of geniuses will design an alternative just in the nick of time. Until then everyone is too lazy to fund them.

Same shit as with the nuclear bomb. Nuclear technology was a neat idea for a while there but once the US Government realized you could fight a war with it they had their scientists get off their duffs and invent a bomb in about 5 years.

Except that too much of your society runs on CHEAP energy. Expensive energy breaks your civilization like a dried monkey penis.

HERP-DERP ELSEWHERE WHILE THE REAL MEN TALK IT THROUGH.

No amount of genius or technology CREATES ENERGY. We obtain energy from FOUND SOURCES.

Petroleum was the Maximum Fuel for our race. Nothing else that exists can beat it, for the combination of Cheap, Dense and Practical.

The faith that geniuses will "find" another magic liquid fuel, is just that: Faith. It has nothing to do with facts and logic: Science.

Fuck you Cornucopians right in your stupid religious asses.

Said geniuses might figure out sustainable fusion power. Then we can just use hydrogen.

why worry about peak oil?

that's a problem for the poor.

The solution is just don't be a member of the poor.

how many times do we have to go over this ???

The routes would be very limited and it's not new technology at all.

>> No.4759403

>>4759387

The routes used by long haul trucks are already limited. They're called interstates. Electrifying them eliminates 90% of gas use. These trucks don't have batteries for now, they switch over to gas for the last few miles, then get back on the interstate and switch back to electric. But they can easily, and eventually will be, converted to pure electric because with the supporting infrastructure on interstates there's nothing preventing it and an established economic incentive as proven by existing in-city electric delivery trucks.
