I design bike lights and computers for a little startup company (computer engineer). Most of the time I'm in my electronics lab, but on nice sunny days I'll decide to take some projects for a test ride and be payed to cruise around the beach. There's some free trips to trade shows too. I make $50k/year, which is a little low for my profession but I'd rather do this than eat shit in a cubicle. It's not a bad life.

The us of 'an' there is correct. Believe it or not, the ""rule"" that you use 'an' only before a word beginning with a vowel is incorrect. It is properly used before any vowel-sound. When you say aloud the acronym 'sem', it is pronounced 'es ee ehm', so 'an' is appropriate.
