Any other /sci/entists listen to metal? For some reason when I think of science and metal I just cannot picture the two coexisting.

>> No.4731057

I listen to the old 80's thrash metal like old Metallica and Iron Maiden and Judas Priest
btw I'm a biology student and I agree with that statement that Metal and science seems to co-exist together well

>> No.4731066

i enjoy a bit of drone metal and black metal, and i also enjoy noise-rock if you consider that metal enough

>> No.4731072

I listen to trance, the real one from the late 1990s - early 2000s. I picture science and trance coexisting very well but I suppose this isn't a popular opinion

stoner metal, doom metal, sludge metal.

The OP said he DOESN'T think they can coexist.

I enjoy: Ayreon, Avantasia, Edguy, Stratovarius, Foxy Shazam (not metal),

Adagio and pagan's mind are okay, but they're usually too heavy or just shit

>> No.4731176

I like psychedelic, punk/post-punk, noise rock and other types of "experimental" music.

Ayreon (Arjen Anthony Lucassen) is a folk/prog metal "thing". The main artist writes everything, then hires extra (6-9) singers and instrumentalists to play it.

I'm elaborating because his albums are always concept albums, usually about sci-fi.

SCI-FI.

Jesus fuck. Metal about sci-fi? Yes.

If you want to check him out, start with either The Human Equation or Lost in The New Real.

The Human Equation is more about emotions than sci-fi, but it's the easiest introduction to his style (and doesn't require listening to his previous albums to understand the sci-fi story)

Lost in the New Real was released under his full name as a solo album. It's about a Mr. L (it's him being pretentious) that wakes up in a dystopian futuristic universe. It's also a good gateway to get into his genre, the only drawback being there's only one singer, so it's not exactly a story with people talking to eachother.

Lucassen has another project: Star One

Just like his Ayreon project, it has multiple singers, but each song is about a different sci-fi movie. It's heavier than Ayreon, with the second album of Star One (victims of a modern age) being heavier than the first album (space metal).

If you're new to metal, try Ayreon. If you like it heavier, try Star One.

Of course, there are more great metal bands out there, but these are the only two that focus on sci-fi.

I can listen to just about any genre of music and get quite into it. I hate how people just close themselves off to a select few genres/eras of music (or any medium, really).

I haven't listened to any form of metal in years, save for a quick album here and there though.

Lately I've been listening to a mix of electro-swing and orchestrated music.

Does anyone here like Vitamin String Quartet? I have about 30 of their albums. A lot of it is pretty 'stale' since you've heard all the originals, but some of it (especially their metal covers) is just fantastic.
