Not to support evo psych here but 'gene shortage' does not really hold water. It assumes no parts of the brain controlling emotions share genes, many of our protein coding genes have multiple functions in different places and its likely much of the brain will require the same genes to make. Genes do not directly cause emotions, they would create the brain structures that lead to them. Also this does not take into account alternative splicing.
