>/sci/, and everyone to be fair, recommends rudin for real analysis
>struggle with it off and on
>actually taking real analysis over the summer
>book used is pugh - real mathematical analysis
>read the first few chapters
>this shit makes sense the first time

and not just because ive already been over some of it in rudin

Anyways, does anyone have any books (on any math subject) that they prefer over the typical highly-recommended shit?

Rudin is a terrible first book for analysis. Don't trust /sci/ so much.

Anyway, if you have a book thats working for you just stick to it.
Alteratively, go through munkres's topology for a bit. If you understand topology better, Rudin actually becomes decent.

Differential and Integral Calculus by Piskunov, but I'm an engineering student and its not heavy on proofs.

go with Apostol Calculus book instead

spivak to /sci/ is like the thinkpad to /g/

>> No.4680430

can some of you math majors etc explain to me what the fuck is the point of analysis?

because after watching some lectures it seems like mental masturbation and who can write the most obscure proof

>what is the point of calculus?

You're hopeless if you can't answer that

A more rigorous and formal approach to calculus that gives students a deeper understanding of whats going on.
