Alright.
Let's say you're trapped on an alien world and have been captured by alien scientists.
They don't want to kill you but they know absolutely nothing about you they can't derive from basic observation.
They don't know what you eat or if you even DO eat, they have no idea what you breathe and you're just lucky the gas mix they decided on hasn't already killed you.

You have a notebook and a pen.
You have only a matter of days until suffocation, dehydration, or starvation sets in.

How do you tell them what you need to live?

>> No.4665061

I defiantly kill myself using the pen as a piercing object.

start with this.

also, if they picked you up, chances are they would fill your container with "native flora" and the right mix of gases.

if you got there, they will know you're intelligent and will probably try to help you.
or at least keep you alive for study. which requires finding out where you came from.

Depends entirely on them and how cooperative they feel like being. Still, a couple days for water seems to be insufficient unless the aliens are supergeniuses w.r.t. language, and they can have sufficient visual acuity to recognize the marks on the paper, have sufficient mental faculty to be able to process those marks as efficiently as the human brain, etc., then maybe you have a chance.

>> No.4665069 [DELETED]

Draw another human, and draw me consuming that human. Since they got me, I can at least come to the conclusion that they know where to get another human. If I draw any other animal or food, then there is a chance that they will not understand and I will not get food.
Unfortunate, but I'll have to eat another human.

I would use my faeces to sculpt a miniature model of a person. I would then reconfigure it, eg. moving the arms and legs, and move my arms and legs to the same positions, until I noticed them understand that it was a representation of me. Then I would make another one, which looks different, and move it next to the first. I may leave the first model "dead" on the floor, until the other one is moved close, then it gets up again. When I notice some kind of understanding that "being up" is linked to "being close to another", then I would lay down. Hopefully they would go and pick up another person, who I could then eat.

Once the basics necessities are taken care of, I'd develop a language with them, using whatever symbols are distinguishable by both of us (eg. visible marks, audible sounds, vibrations, etc.). I'd probably start with SK combinatory logic, and build up from there.

Once that's done, I'll be feeling a little better, so I will start trying to convey the gases that are in the atmosphere. I am sure they'll be able to tell that I breathe gas in and out, just by feeling the movement of air in and out of my mouth; I assume they're not stupid, if they're scientists and they're from a space-faring world. We're not roleplaying, we're analyzing. If you want to see roleplay, get someone to start interacting with a hypothetical alien, start writing a story and making up details.

And science relies on ideas of the fantastic to give us direction. Going to the fucking moon was fantastic 200 years ago. We did it 50 years ago. If aliens can exist, maybe they do exist. If aliens do exist, maybe this could happen. Can you approach it reasonably, instead of shitposting?

/x/ is about phenomena that aren't or can't be explained by science, generally of questionable existence. This is about describing ideas created by science to creatures capable of science. We KNOW creatures capable of science exist, so this does not belong on /x/.

The differences are that aliens would probably exist so far away they'd be hard to detect even now, and that no one claims to have been abducted by a Higgs boson, so crackpots aren't associated with high-energy physics.

There are atleast 10.000 Earth-like planets in our galaxy alone.

We have over 4000 cases where UFOs have landed on Earth and left physical evidence. (ancient times)

We have over 350 cases where commercial jetline or military pilots have encountered or engaged UFOs.

We have hundreds of cases where these objects were seen travelling thousands of miles per hour or dematerializing and appearing in another place.

There are thousands of images, videos, witnesses and documentaries showing UFOs or aliens.

Many giant crop circles, were *perfectly* made,

1. Humans exist
2. Beings such as humans, are not the result of creation, but of a natural process
3. There are other planets in a stable orbit around a sun
4. Without any evidence to the contrary, the default stance is that similar natural processes occur on similar planets
5. Without any evidence to the contrary, it is likely that there are beings (such as humans) on other planets
Of course, this is not a rigourous proof, but merely an analysis of which side of the argument carries the burden of proof.
To make the statement that there are no aliens, you need to prove that either one of the 5 points is invalid, or that the natural process that formed humans is such an unlikely event, that it is far more likely that it happened only once, rather then never.

The statement that aliens have any sort of contact with earth is a completely different statement, though. There the default stance is that aliens have no contact with earth, and the proposition that they do needs sufficient proof.

you are a lone test pilot in a super advanced wormhole traversing faster than light drive space ship. you are way the fuck off course and nowhere even close to earth. your ship is about to go nuclear and these aliens come by and notice that
1. this ship is about to explode and
2. there is something that might be alive on it.
being good galactic citizens they beam(just accept that for arguments sake) you onto their ship seconds before the whole thing is vaporized. they only got a half assed scan of the atmosphere inside the ship and so the air mixture is not quite right.
you wake up in an observation room with writing implement and paper like stuff or a touch screen or something. doesn't really matter.

Images and video's are definite proof. Unless they are of the moon landing, of course.

How do you explain a disappearing human in a box, at a magic show? Unless you're a magician, you can't. Yet you know that it's just a trick, and the person didn't really disappear.

using tally marks to count i would show them what the base 10 number system was by using tally marks
i would probably try drawing trees

it should be pretty easy to show numbers, base 10 system etc. then draw a few atomic structures so they get what you're doing, and just write down the periodic table, or a bunch of useful elements like carbon, hydrogen, oxygen. they're probably understand that.

you'd probably have to draw another diagram illustrating a sequence of solid, liquid and gaseous states.

illustrate approx 1cm^2 as an area, then quickly extrapolate the metric system of volumes.

then request 79/100 nitrogen + 21/100 oxygen as a gas.
request a couple of litres of h2o as a liquid.
and for the time being, so you don't die within the next couple of weeks, request c6h12o6 as a solid.

that should buy you some time.
