What if we're not detecting any incoming alien signals because we're actualy one of the last ones to evolve technologically and everyone else died off a long time ago, their civilisations completely erased by the passage of time.

>> No.4628266

We could still detect signals left by electromagnetic transmissions depending on when they left them and where they left them.

but signals get scrambled over time from all the radiation, what if so much time passed that its all white noise now

this
if they ever existed, and ever transmitted signals, the signals would still be coming.

Scrambled or not (and at what point?), we would still get something. That's why we built ridiculously big antennas/telescopes just on the purpose of alien signals.

If that were true that means even their electromagnetic transmissions are really old. So we will never have any evidence of there being older civilizations. So it's basically a stupid question(scientifically speaking), you're asking a what if questions if all civilizations are so old they no longer leave any evidence.

If that is true and we do become spacefaring then we will have the entire universe to yourselves

what if we are the progenitor races/old ones, destined to build the stellar-sized artifacts/jumpgates/doomsday devices for alien species, millions of years in the future, to gaze at in awe?

pic just intended for humour, not meant to be taken as factual.
i also doubt there are aliens in that exact spot, who look exactly like that, who have independence day-style laser cannons to use against us in 2060.

What if we haven't detected any alien signals because we are the first technological civilisation? We are the greatest and most advances civilisation the universe has ever known?

>> No.4628330

We are the only intelligent thing ion our level ever because intelligence is a flaw in evolution and will eventually lead to our end.

Are we the Protheans/forerunners?

I would say more like reapers in that respect

Yes, my post was intended as subtle sarcasm. Besides, the ID4 cannon was really disappointing for a species that had apparently invented reactionless drives and gravity control.

"Nine thousand years of searching . . . was not enough. Artifacts from beyond the Singularity are so vast that doubters can easily deny them. And the pattern of progress followed by vanishment can be twisted to any explanation-especially on Earth, where there are signs of war."

yeah why not? Its always some advanced aliens from the past. Maybe this is the past and we are the ones first advancing
