Is the only problem with this the water not escaping?

>> No.4583309

>>4583302
The problem is that you won't be able to force the ball into the water from below. That makes the water level rise, and this requires energy.

>>4583302
And the fact that the system would reach equilibrium and not work.

Among other things.

Really, you can just look up any perpetual motion or over-unity device design and make a troll physics pic.

Carbon credits are even worse. In the real world you can make unfounded claims of future activity, then scale them back and receive instant carbon credits without having saved a thing.

For example http://www.redd-monitor.org/2011/11/10/asia-pulp-and-papers-big-redd-scam-on-the-kampar-peninsula/

minus the go around the world bit, can you actually manage to float (assume kg~70) in a reasonably sized matress like that filled with helium?

I have the feeling it needs to be much larger, ruining the aladdin effect

No, needs to be bigger.

Not sure. But to float, you'd have to put sandbags on the side to keep it level and then there's always the possibility of it going up in flames Hindenberg style.

>> No.4583424

>>4583406
You can make an inflatable matress float by filling it with helium or hydrogen, but not enough to make you float

In order to float you and the craft's mass must be lighter than the volume of air that you displace. As air weighs 1.2kgm^-3 so it needs to be a very large matress.

Assuming that you and the craft weigh 75kg together, and a matress is 20cm thick, it needs to be about 17*18M

>> No.4583428

>>4583406
A m^3 of air is 1.28 kilograms, it seems, so you need at least one m^3 of displaced air volume for every 1.28 kg you want to lift. The fact that helium has mass too just means you need even more volume than that.

hindenberg was covered with flammable paint.

The hindenberg went up because it was filled with hydrogen.

Maybe theres a new element not yet discovered that works even better than helium for sure..

>> No.4583445

>>4583441
An element that's lighter than hydrogen or helium?
Nope. If there's anything that fits that description, it's not made of protons, neutrons and electrons.

There are other ways to fly besides buoyant force though.

>> No.4583456

>>4583445
vaccuum, or helium with less atmosphere

>> No.4583464

>>4583456
Sure. And I guess you can just keep them hotter, to get the same pressure with less mass (hot air balloons do this, that's why they don't need helium or hydrogen).

>> No.4583472

>>4583445
Thats just assuming everything is made from neutrons protons and electrons and subsequently by quarks.
Perhaps somewhere thats not the way it is.

I'm not interested into flying as much as I am in a noiseless floating matress that I can float about as if it was my floating stronghold.
Its a childhood thing.

You can probably fake it with some fancy technology. Or just wait for good VR.
