>implying biology is a soft science
>implying you count ecology, zoology, /sp/ science as biology

Have fun with you singular babby degrees while I'm stylin on yall

I don't know what you are saying.
Everyone knows physics is the superior science.

now ive heard everything
what are you going to say math is science next?

gauss was a dumbass. math isn't a science

number theory IS the queen of mathematics though

>> No.4565425

Math is the queen of science. It's what science fucks when he's come home from a hard day of sciencing.

>> No.4565435

>>4565408
Math is a precursor to ALL science. Someone who studied/is studying a hard science would acknowledge that.

>> No.4565437

Biology is only referred to as a soft science because in all of the general courses, which is all the exposure any of the other sciences get, all you do is memorize terms. You dont do any actual science until you get to the upperlevel courses, the hardest math you encounter in the generals is hardy weinberg problems.

that's like saying language is the precursor to poetry. true, but it doesn't mean language IS poetry.

People who argue that one science is better or "purer" then others, will be the frist against the wall when the revolution comes.

Good analogy. I'm a math geek, and I actually agree with this.

What you're missing is that math is the most beautiful field we have, and it also requires the most creativity. Basically, poets don't have shit on mathematicians. And spoken language doesn't have shit on math.

>> No.4565482

>>4565435
Yeah. And learning language is a precursor to learning maths. So the universe must be made of language if we understand it using it.

>> No.4565596

>>4565482
no it isn't. you don't need any language to look at a pair of stones and understand that there's 2 of them.

yeah no. beyond the elementary operations like addition or integration, biologist don't know shit about maths

Language is actually the key for most of our conceptualization capabilities, similarly to reading and writing, but in a more fundamental way. I'm pretty certain mathematics is impossible to understand without any form of language. Even such simple tasks as counting small natural numbers may be very hard if you don't understand language.

no, every animals can do basic maths.

There's a huge difference between being able to understand math and being able to verbally describe or understand it.

A toddler with no concept of language can understand differences in size and number.

>> No.4565676

>>4565651
>every animals can do basic maths
>every animal
First off, very few animals have been confirmed to actually be able to as much as count. Secondly, when I talk about language, I mean the comprehension of it (which even dogs have), and it doesn't have to be verbal language either.

>> No.4565678

>>4565639
if an animal see a place with lots of food, and an other place with much less food, he will go where there is lots of food.
This prove the animal has a basic understanding of number and order theory

>> No.4565714

>>4565639
Even if our ability to understand language is what helps us understand math, it doesn't change the fact that the mathematical truths exist independent of our language.

The person you quoted said "math is a precursor to all science". He did not say "learning math is a precursor to learning all science", though this statement is true, it is different from the point he wanted to get across.

>> No.4565862

Statistics is the base of all science. Any experiment without a design for randomness is worthless knowledge. It can't be weighted or meta-analyzed to imply anything with relative certainty.

>> No.4565909

That's weird i always thought biology to be the science were you have to solve problems interdisciplinary, employing tools from lower sciences like chemistry, physics and whatever the dumbass OP studies.
