Hey /sci/, trying here first, because other boards are generally useless, although I haven't tried /o/ or /n/, I see this as related to all 3.

I have a car design I've been scratching out on paper for about 8 years. I have a pretty strong understanding of the mechanical portions, and of the general function of the body (sheetmetal) of a vehicle. But I'd like to simulate a wind tunnel and/or functional aerodynamics before I commit tens of thousands of dollars to making it a reality.

Is there a CAD program for sale coughpiratecough that could be used by someone with a basic knowledge of 3d animation, fluid dynamics, and basic math? Preferably one that can factor in traction and momentum at different angles (and, thus, aero at different angles)?

Before I made the vehicle into a production model (years off), I'd of course be willing to pay for the software, but for right now, while it's just a crazy idea rattling around inside my head, it'd probably be more optimal to use freeware/"borrow" something.

Also - anyone know how to calculate fuel economy given an approximate weight, coefficient of drag, frontal area, and basic engine parameters/gearing/net mechanical drag?

Thanks in advance /sci/ducks.

How the fuck has this trip not been banned yet? Troll harder fatty. I know, EK = new anon in /sci/. Old news, fuck off.

Need automotive CAD or something that can be purposed towards it. Thoughts?

If you're a student, you can access all of autocad stuff, though it doesn't have
> Preferably one that can factor in traction and momentum at different angles (and, thus, aero at different angles)
and some other functions you requested, it still might be nice to get a a good 3d model down with it.

Suppose I'll get cracking on that then, and no, not a student, although I do have a few .edu email addresses and such I might be able to abuse to come off as one.

I'll see if I can crank one out in 3DSM within the day, been a while since I modeled something from scratch. Thanks for the adv.

Try to "borrow" CATIA. It's what we use in the aerospace industry to draw our planes. 787 dreamliner.

Oh wow, haven't found a "Borrow" availability for it - but dear lord that's fascinating software and almost exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks, kind anon.

I actually got banned for using that trip once ;__;

They banned people who used Zyzz's trip long after they IP banned him and he gave up his trip info.

I didn't respond when they said that because I didn't want to encourage the troll to continue shitposting and bumping my thread. Speaking of - polite sage, question answered :D.
