Why are points not in the Mandelbrot set said to escape when Mandelbrot hairs stretch to infinity and fill the plane with their bounded points?

the black stuff is our universe, the colorful geometry is outside our universe.

i hope that clears things up.

Fuuck. But if the entire plane is filled with minibrots, that must make "inside" and "outside" the same thing, right?

I can't help but wonder how long the program took to produce the data for those images.

The one in the OP took about an hour last night. It's one of 16 tiles, still got a bunch to go.

Well what happens to a point that's not in the set as n approaches infinity? Doesn't the use of a bail-out imply you don't know what happens to Z for sure?

what map?

in mandelbrot pictures members of the set are usually coloured black.

other colours are used to show how long it takes the point to diverge. say mid blue takes 10 iterations to be outside the radius 2 circle, darker blue takes 11, etc

If you get to 3d-nav mode you can interactively fly around, It works really well if you have 4 or 8 cores.

theres a colorful button on Mandelbulb3d 1.7.9 in the upper left corner under the filmstrip button. it says 3d navi.

then click on the picture and you can mouse-look until you click again.

Because the SEQUENCE (<span class="math">z_{n+1}=z_n + c
) of a point <span class="math">z=z_0
belonging to the Mandelbrot set doesn't escape. The point <span class="math">z
itself can be as far away from the origin as you want; what matters is that the sequence defined above is bounded.
