My first time on /sci/.

I stumbled across a video on youtube that talks about Andrea Rossi's Energy Catalyzer (E-Cat). In the video the inventor (Rossi) claims that his device outputs a lot more energy than input.

I've been reading about it a bit and haven't found any solid news on his device. Is it a hoax?

How does one get more energy out than was put in without violating the laws of the universe?

All of those "free energy machines" are hoaxes. They try to sell you a PDF document with "instructions" to build the machine for like $50, and of course all you're building is, like, an oversized rock tumbler.

One of my friends was obsessed with one of these hoaxes for a while and was seriously considering buying the instructions even though he couldn't afford it, so I found a pirated copy for him just to prove that it was bullshit. The instructions were actually kind of hilarious. I could probably post them if anybody was interested in a laugh.

Not the first time he makes ridicolous claims he won't be able to back up, even making machines, which all fail miserably when tested by others than him.

He's so obviously full of shit its not even worth discussing.

Ugh, I'm having trouble finding it again. I can't remember exactly what it was called, and I am struggling to find a backed up copy of the PDF in my records. Just bumping the thread to say I'm still looking.

That isn't what the E-Cat is.

Rossi currently has contracts for several MW plants, it's not going to be long before his device is conclusively proven to be bullshit or everything it claims to be. I don't criticise his business approach because it would be pretty standard procedure to not give every detail away if it's the breakthrough he claims it to be.
