>> No.4516983

What kind of shitty school passes students with a 55%?

Passing doesn't really matter anyway, because most real universities require a C or better to move up to higher level classes.

I'm glad your professor isn't responding to grade inflation.

Good for him/her.

Sorry he demanded more from you OP. Too bad you weren't able to slide by on the subject.

The professor is obviously scaling the grade brackets down rather than the scores up. It's pretty weird but not unheard of.

no its not, literally every class ive taken in college graded on a curve did so based on moving grade brackets except for intro econ which just had +5 to +10 on every test (finished with a 101)

No... I meant the IQ post.

Regardless. Yeah, calculus is tough. It's not immediately accessible to the average mind.

Problem is, education celebrates and rewards mediocrity. Schools don't teach people how to think, they teach them plug-and-chug math. Until calculus, this doesn't get very difficult for many.

So, the student hits calculus like a wall. What does the average student do? Hope for a curve.

What does the successful student do? Work harder. Study harder. And apply themselves.

Oh, this class is harder than any other you've taken before? Then fucking spend more time studying it.

Study methods not working? Of course they aren't. You've never really had to study. You've coasted by, attending lectures, filling outlines, filling worksheets, doing the assigned work and correcting your errors by consulting back-of-the-book answer sheets.

Here's growing up. This isn't a humanities class. There is a right answer to the problem.

You are capable of this, you just need to apply yourself now, OP. If you fail, own up to it and become better for it.

Hey OP,

I failed the shit out of calc I and II twice each before I passed them. In the end it cost me an extra two years to get through my undergrad, but I persisted and now I'm in grad school. For a chemist my math skills are now godlike, it just took me a lot longer to acquire them. Don't quit, just change your strategy, and don't keep doing the same thing. Find new ways to study and devote more time to it. I found Schaum's outlines very helpful.

I got a D in calculus II. I then got my shit together. Deans list next semester.

Seriously though, if you're trying to go a math/phys/engineering route, it's only gonna get a lot harder. You need to light a fire under it or reconsider.

From the American Chemical Society, the latest year's statistics (2009) for Ph.D chemists have a mean income of $103,849.

So what about chemists bothers you so much that you would make up an income figure so low?
