Evening

How come animals can create most of their own vitamins, but humans need to consume almost everything though food?
Does it have any advantage?

Its been on my mind lately.

Ok but why cant we create our own for our brain's maintence then?

>>4516810
Hm? All animals but humans, some bat and hamsters can create their own vitamin c

>> No.4516904

No takers?

>> No.4516922

We do.
For instance we can create vitamin D from sunlight

yes, needing vit C is the thing that makes us different from most animals. would like to know what other vits animals don't need.

inb4 B12, they get it from bacteria in their stomachs

Yeah I said almost everything.

For the same reason the universe exists.

Ohh, so the thing is they don't NEED as many vitamins?
I always assumed they needed just as many but they could create their own, the way cattle can create their own protein from the starch in grass.

cattle don't create protein from starch in grass. they can modify certain amino acids (as we can) into others, but not all.

there is no nitrogen in starch to make protein with.

>> No.4516982

but animals eat things, so why would they waste energy creating things to be used by the body when they can just ingest them...

are you sure that other animals actually make all of their vitamins?
