My psychologist wrote that I have "Cartesian thinking" in my psychological report, after many hours of interviews and testing. What does that mean?

He is intelligent, but not experienced. His pattern indicates two-dimensional thinking.

It means you question reality and have many abstract thoughts about the nature of your own thoughts in relation to the world around you. "I think therefore I am" was from Rene

René Descartes was a great pioneer of modern philosophy, as well as a skilled mathematician (see Cartesian co-ordinates). He was very strict and thorough in the way that he conducted himself; the only way to attain true knowledge, according to him, was to discard everything you think you know as a lie and slowly rebuild.

I've never heard anyone being described as "Cartesian", but maybe that will give you an idea.

Descartes believed in God because he could perceive reality, and it seemed to him there was a God, and since God does not deceive, ipso facto there is a God

he also thought that animals have no souls and are unconscious automatons; he routinely experimented on them at the expensive of their suffering and his wife's disgust, etc

he was good at math, but in terms of philosophy he was an idiot

Descartes is also responsible for popularizing mind-brain duality, making the soul(mind) a totally different substance than the brain and most idiocy you see on /sci/ is due to descartes

Psychology is not a science, therefore your psychologists' opinions are not valid. Go see a neuroscientist if you'd like actual advice.

I'm aware of fallacies such as the Cartesian circle, but the specific things that Descartes tripped up on don't make him unimportant to philosophy. Before René, rationalism was pretty much unexplored by philosophers. Although I'm not a rationalist myself, I can admit that he did bring up some very important ideas that should be considered before accepting empiricism (see hyperbolic doubt and the "evil demon").

It is a pseudoscience. It does not utilize the scientific method, and does not obtain sufficient empirical evidence to be deemed a science.

A soft science does not utilize the language of reality, while a hard science does. Psychology isn't even on this tier.

It means you will never be able to fully comprehend polar coordinates.

It's not that it's impossible to study the mind scientifically, it's that, in practice, psychology is pseudoscientific.
