I don't think people realize how strong their memories are it's just a matter of repetition and desire to practice, I think it applies to all areas of intelligence....

understanding how life works, how evolution happens, how biological chemistry influences our behavior and changes our physiology and how brains give rise to consciousness is infinitely more interesting than figuring out "hard science things"

i.e...how to calculate the trajectory of a ball
how to find the acceleration of a rocket
how to find the distance of some planet...
how to find the quantum position of some random lifeless particle

blablablabl...neat facts, but have little interesting implications

even the more abstract things like the uncertainty principle are irrelevant because they only hold on the atomic level

OP you're doing really well with this science thing.

memory doesn't count for shit anymore, since most people have the sum of human knowledge accessible from their smartphones.

what does still count is practical skills. aka; communication, engineering, medicine, maths

That fucking feel. My memory is awful, yet I can remember almost every single detail about the first three Pokemon generations.

Nope, there's much more to memory than just this. Googling 'memory tricks' or 'memory techniques' would be a good start.

Pokemon are memorable for a reason. Anthrmorphized, colorful, unique, associated audio cue, emotional, mobile, etc. The trick is to make mundane things more like pokemon. Very do-able once you get the basic techniques down.

I was concerned the first time I had a "bump" along my educational career... but then I manned up and realized that all it takes it "time".

>Just recently memorized a whole crap-ton of study material, pages worth of books. (25 yr)

It might just be a property of the smartest of us. I assume that /sci/ has the most brilliant of the populous as its lurkers. We can absorb input, remember it appropriately, and recall it when appropriate. Those who can't... well, they're only on /sci/ so that someone else can do their homework.

What the fuck are you smoking? I can memorize tons of content without much effort, but if you don't 'understand' the content, it is useless as soon as you get a problem that isn't copy and pasted out of the text.
