Does watching T.V really make you stupid?
Or does it just occupy time in which you could've been reading a book, making yourself 'smarter'

I saw this TEDx video a few days ago

The talk is quite interesting and on 11:30 they show mice experiments, which suggests that it's unhealthy (to watch too much TV, at least as a child)

Reading is overrated.

Dumbly absorbing content as scheduled is bad for you.

Seeking out and interacting with the content you absorb is good for you.

This right here. Over stimulation is bad for you. Especially when you're a child. guess you're fucked now.

It depends what you watch. Certain TV shows can teach you things, and make you more knowledgeable. Shows that do not, do not make you stupider, although they do take up your time.

Well, yes.

But getting to watch any shows from the whole catalog of human creativity, on demand, rather than having to wait for them to be scheduled, is better for you. It allows you to develop your own tastes, rather than just follow the lowest common denominator.

And interacting could be such things as writing a blog about it, discussing it online, doing some fanfiction, making a parody, and whatever. Sure, this was possible in the stupid ages, but it's so streamlined right now that it's a huge factor.

so interaction is the key ... as I suspected , thanks anon :3
