Doing some project for school and need a good way to remove rust on nails. What do?

>> No.4374185

Electrolysis or abrasives

>> No.4374188

Sand Paper

>> No.4374189

Or just buy some new nails that aren't rusty.

>> No.4374199

Oh and the removal needs to somehow preserve the rust so that it can be weighed and the amount of rust can be determined..

>> No.4374209

6% sodium cyanide solution

>> No.4374226

Electrolysis. Weigh the nail before and after the process.

Don't bother trying to collect the rust itself.

The nails are going to be kept in plastic containers containing water. Will the electrolysis still work?

>> No.4374452

What the fuck do you mean will it still work? You take a rusty nail, weigh it, do electrolysis to remove rust, weigh it.

It's separate from your stupid air, partially submerged, fully submerged experiment.

Reported for underage at pre-school.

>> No.4374599

Hammer the nails through wood a couple of times.

If you don't have any wood, hammer the nails through your hand/arm.

Rust will be gone.

>> No.4374614

Rust poison.
You won't be able to get rid of it completely before you kill it. Else it'll be much tougher and will grow back constantly.
Use rust poison on it then you should just be able to wipe it off

How do you determine the quantities of iron(II) vs iron(III)?
