This may not belong to /sci/ but there are no boards i can ask it here, and no /x/ is not an option.

What is the connection between the Pineal Gland and the consciousness / soul ? Why did the egyptians put this symbol everywhere and was there a connection between the elongated skull of Akhenaten and extraterrestials ?

It's obvious that we'll have tsoukalos posts but let's try to keep them at minimum gentleman.

There is none.

Sure there are a lot of neuroscience studies, but thinking you can explain consciousness by neuroscience is silly.

Doing a BsC in neuroscience here and this thread reeks of ignorance. To be honest the only person I've ever seen on /sci/ who knows jack about the brain is Imhotep.

The hierarchical stucture of the brain means that with small increments connectively you can reap huge rewards in terms of 'processing power'.

There is no 'conciousness module' that we have and other animals don't

>> No.4367846

>>4367833
At that time, they didn't have the scientific knowledge or tools to remove the brain from the skull without damaging it, and cut it halfway smoothly. Even if they did, there is no way they could figure out what the pineal gland does.

>> No.4367850

>>4367842
So what if they do, you can get a fuckton of different similarities between objects and various angles of human anatomy depending on how you slice the human body and look at it. Just because if you happen to slice the pineal gland at an angle of exactly 32.45 degrees and it barely happens to look like an Egyptian hieroglyph, doesnt make it mean anything

It's not just a spesific angle. It's cut right halfway because of the symmetry of the brain. And you can see this eye symbol in many egyptian hieroglyphs. Your debunking skills are terrible

based on this you might as well ask what the connection is between the corpus callosum and consciousness, since the eyebrow is such a prominent feature in the eye symbol.

You don't know shit. Make a PhD first. Then you can come back. The knoledge of an undergrad is not even comparable to that of an educated layman.

Cool story, bro. Only didn't you say anything about the pineal gland.

>What is the connection between the Pineal Gland and the consciousness / soul ?
Short answer? None which is based on empirical findings.

Long(er) answer? Descartes thought the pineal gland was the seat of the sould because, as opposed to virtually all other structures in the brain, we only have one pineal gland. Some cultures attribute mystical powers to the pineal gland because of its photosensitive properties in some vertebrates. In these species, the pineal gland is placed against the roof of the skull, and can receive light. Because of this, it's sometimes referred to as the 'third eye'. Its photosensitive properties are however not comparable to an actual retina, and its role is limited to regulating the circadian rhythm. In humans however, it is buried deep below the cortical volume, and has lost its photosensitive properties (although it is still modulated by light, but indirectly). It's nothing more than a hormone gland.

I'm not sure, but I think certain streams of Buddhism. The name third eye didn't actually come from them. The French writer Georges Bataille also wrote about it extensively in the 19th century. His ideas caught on in philosophers circles during that time. Additionally, some new-wave streams also link it to DMT production and spiritual transcendence. They see fluoridization of the pineal gland as the most terrible thing in the word (exaggerating, in case you didn't get it.).

Anyway, I don't know too much about all that stuff. I'm sure you can find something if you just google it. I stick to the neuroscience. That's all.

Huh. But there are other brain structures which are "unique". Like the hypothalamus. But no one thought on the same principle to claim consciousness might have anyhing to do with it.

There was a thread on /pol/ about fluoridation a few days ago that talked about this. Apparently it might be possible to reverse its calcification by eating healthy and drinking only twice filtered water. The water was filtered twice in order to remove the fluoride, which does calcify the gland.

Calcification of the gland has been known to lower energy levels, lead to more mental health issues as compared to people with uncalcified pineal glands, and if the poster was to be believed, have a harder time in achieving lucid dreaming.
