/sci/ has a lot of mathematicians, and mathematics is primarily a creative pursuit. So I wouldn't say we're so devoid of creativity. You should see some of the serious maths threads that happen here from time to time.

The only thing that seems to be lateralized in the brain is language, and even there there's some variation and leeway. E.g. there's a significant percentage of lefties who have their "language center" if it even qualifies as such, on the wrong side.

Also, there are many reported cases of people who lose a part of the brain in infancy and the work just gets redistributed. It's very highly plastic.

>> No.4359593

>>4359445
Kind of, we found out that if you lose one side of the brain, the other can retrieve everything it was responsible and move it to the side that's still there.

>> No.4359594

I'm left handed... but I can do stuff with my right hand, including writing and drawing because I got smacked for using my left hand by teachers.. Catholic school non-sense that actually inadvertently taught me to use both hand just as proficiently as the other.

Mixed-Handedness always wins over polarized individuals. Also right/left brain crap is quite well handed by this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuroplasticity
In other words, you're unique and diagrams can be helpful but not infinitely so. If you ever had a brain injury or stroke, you'd know just how liberating it is to know that you can regrow parts of you that were lost.

I think the whole right vs. left brain issue is very harmful indeed and rather we should emphasis on expanding society to be less polarized in attitudes about it. An easy way would be to teach people to be mixed handed in schools as part of the required curriculum. Thereby bypassing the issue of who has unlocked what potential in their minds, but a whole new avenue of questions and hopes of what did you personally achieve in your whole brained mind?

Grow up.

>the results were that there were significantly more left-handers amongst male mathematics undergraduates than male non-mathematics undergraduates (21% versus 11%) and significantly more non-right-handers (44% versus 24%), and that there was a similar but smaller left-handedness difference for female undergraduates (11% versus 8%).

I always find it pathetic when non-right-handers feel the need to go out and research (and invent) things that supposedly prove how special and great they are.
My father was left handed and whenever he saw somebody on tv who was left handed he would say "Look, see, he's left handed! Left handed people are better at acting!". So many facepalms.

Left brain thinkers are extremely limited persons, They are incapable of creating original thoughts. They only process the data they have contact with as right or true. It destroys critical thinking. Asians are notorious for being left brained.

Ive been right handed all my life but I plan/have started to teach myself to write/use both hands. Mostly because I have low muscle tone and find writing for any amount of time causes cramps in my hand to the point I cant use it, so I hope by being able to use both hands, I can just switch when it gets too much.

Also I find it kind of silly that people are so focused on making everyone use their right hand when being able to use shows far more ability.

Psychfag here, YES I MAD

That has nothing to do with brain hemispheres, it is a memory experiment.

Basically, you flash that up for 30 seconds then ask people to write down what the words said in order, they will say

Red, orange, pink, black, red, yellow - ect ect

and remember the colours

most brain parts are cross hemisphere, there is no real difference between left/right side of the brain

"Thinking" as critical thinking requires a certain degree of creativity. Most faggots in here that major in sciences just regurgitate a bunch of "facts" that they got from their 250USD dollar biology books, and think they are some sort of geniuses. They never question what they are reading, nor they question why the fuck did they pay such ammount of money for such trivial knowledge, they never question the system they are trapped. Because they were trained from very young that grades and doing well in school is what gives you value.

Like a good fucking left-brained dog.

I want to add, those people that didn't major in Engineering, computer science, or any of the hard sciences are just retards that lie to themselves about being "creative" or "street smart" when they majored in mass communications, arts, or any other Frat major.

Sure, there are rare exceptions. But you cant tell me with a straight face that more than 1-3% of the students on those fields actually have talent.

Unless its EXTREMELY BAD, It doesn't matter anywhere when everyone has a fucking great GPA. It doesnt matter for the Industry or to a Lab X or Y because the fact that you are good at solving tests means nothing when it comes to real skills. i.e good at working as teams, good organization, good communication skills actual laboral skills. Those skills can be assessed by reading the CV and with an interview. GPA is irrelevant at all levels of education.
