how do USA people refer to the continent "America" in scholar papers?

trolling ain't intended

There is no continent of "America". There is just North America and South America. If one wants to refer to both then one says "the Americas".

There is a continent called "America" What continent is this?

So S. American and N. America are separate land masses?

Just North America. As in the North American Plate or North American Flood Basalts

>> No.4348968

North America

But nobody ever writes essays about Canada, America, Mexico, and any of the itty bitty countries below Mexico, because other countries don't matter.

I wrote a huge thing about how stupid you are. refreshed and deleted it(irony.) here's the summary:
panama canal seperates north and south america, not one land mass.

google it, 7 continents exist in the world, two of which are north and south america

United States Citizens refer to north america as north america, and south america as south america. the two collectively are usually referred to as "the Americas."

"American" is a fine term for US citizens, as it is short for United States of AMERICA(n)

ALMOST FORGOT, central america is its own subcontinent, a small part of north america. THE MOAR YOU KNOW.

>> No.4349002

We call them North America and South America.
Here's why:
they have less connecting them than Asia and Africa do.
And waaaayyy less connecting them than Europe and Asia.
Also, they are on separate tectonic plates.

Seriously it's beyond me why you people refer to them as a single continent.

and why do frivolous naming conventions matter again? Fretting over them is stupid.

>>4348996
The central American region is separated only due to culture and not a major hindering geographical feature. It also depends on whether or not Mexico is included. I've seen it done either way in books because Mexico has a stronger economy or is a Latin speaking nation.

>> No.4349027

>>4349011
because eurofags and latin american fags get all butthurt that we call ourselves "Americans" and refer to the two continents as two instead of one.

South America
Africa
Europe
Asia
Australia
Antarctica

7 continents.

Calling North America the same continent is fucking stupid.

"The six-continent combined-America model is sometimes taught in Latin America and in some parts of Europe including Greece (equivalent 5 inhabited continents model (i.e. excluding Antarctica) still also found in texts), Portugal and Spain."
