hi /sci/, im terrible at chess, does that indicate that im stupid?

Whatever makes you sleep at night.

>> No.4325201

The picture that you posted indicates that you're stupid.

>> No.4325202

It indicates that you have not practiced chess much. The fact that you think intelligence is all that is required for chess, or that chess ability is a good measure of intelligence... makes you stupid.

>> No.4325235

no, the indication that you're stupid is that you think chess indicates that you're smart

>> No.4325250

Intelligence doesn't work that way.

If you were to omit the practice effect and somehow compute a relative score of your ability to perform chess, it would probably correlate with IQ at around .3-.6 (not very strong). The further you deviated from the mean the lower the correlation between it and g would become.

Cognitive ability is multifaceted, therefore it is silly to derive mean intelligence from a single task, even with the existence of Spearman's G. It is more likely than not that your chess ability is within SD of your general ability if you are not highly above or below average in intelligence, if this answers your question.

Your performance on standardized achievement tests correlates with IQ at .7-.8, so you probably already have a solid idea of how bright you are.
