What music does /sci/ listen to when studying/working? I'm looking for recommendations. Preferably with no lyrics but still catchy, since lyrics can be distracting.

>> No.4322065

"Braid" soundtrack
Girl With the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack
Assassination of Jesse James soundtrack
Still - Nine Inch Nails

>> No.4322066

Mozart's clarinet concerto,
Dub / Drum&Bass,
Nothing.

When working on something that doesn't require too much attention (answering mails, writing short reports, coding small scripts or simulations, etc), I usually go for metal / punk rock / alternative rock.

When bored and driving, all of the above plus 90ies pop shit, OSTs, old songs.

>> No.4322072

I usually leave trance.fm on

But that's because I like trance

I listen to the same video game track over and over.

Art Blakey and the jazz messengers, especially "moanin'"

Anything Grant Green, that's hard bop and he had a funk period also, pretty simple stuff and very good.

Miles Davis live at montreux
A lot of loooong repetetive blues/rock/funk/jazz tunes, really great (there's 20 cds)

John Scofield's Jazz/funk records
A Go Go is extremely good and a beginner Scofield listener will find it great too
Scofield & MMW - Out Louder
Some of them are great first time, but it took me a long time to really understand some of it, and then it became one of my favourite albums

Herbie Hancock, long repetitve jazz fusion tunes like Chameleon and Wiggle Waggle, great for studying

All of the above is instrumental and I always listen to it when I study, and I study much better with this on than if it's quiet.

I often listen to songs in foreign languages for that reason.

Like the music from Lagaan

I'm not too into trance or anything like that, but this is some amazing ambient stuff with just enough melody. You can leave it on and it won't get annoying. OP, I'm a fan of no lyrics as well when I'm working. You could also check out

for something more sci-fi.

Are there any lists of .fm sites? Or should I just search? I didn't really know it existed so I don't know where to look?

I usually don't until I find myself getting frustrated/restless, then it helps me continue to focus.

Yes.

A whole lot of electronic music. I usually go for the more calm stuff but still quite catchy (like Ratatat/Massive Attack/The Glitch Mob) when i'm studying

>> No.4322141

I like to listen to complex instrumental music to distract my brain and help me focus.

King Crimson, Yes, Red Sparowes, Pelican, Beethoven, Gustav Holst, Mozart, Billy Cobham, Herbie Hancock, George Duke(After Hours), Casiopea, Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Wes Montgomery, Brad Mehldau, Ravi Shankar, Gypsy Jazz

You should have asked for major as well OP.

If you're not a science major or you're a lower division undergrad, you could listen to whatever you want and still be able to accomplish your homework.
