I'm browsing the Huffington Post Science (lol) and see this story: "Intelligence Study Links Low I.Q. To Prejudice, Racism, Conservatism" and the comments are praising the study. I wonder what reaction they would've had to studies like The Bell Curve.

I don't really understand why psychology gets so much flak around here. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of basic psychology would realize it is quite effective in identifying and understanding different behaviors and thinking patterns.

Yes, there is a lot of hypocrisy in that website. They only tend to like science when it is about global warming or evolution but when it comes to things like genetic engineering, medicine or nuclear power you might as well be talking about the devil himself.

The most liberal areas are also the whitest areas, that is areas with the least day to day contact with other races, while areas with less whites have higher levels of bigotry. If racism was STRICTLY a response emotion in the absence of experience then wouldn't it stand to reason those with experience would be less racist not more?

Also your implication that "gut feelings" have no bias in reality is patently false. Many intuitive responses are subconscious analysis of conscious experience.

If you claim intuition lacks reason then you to sit and re-examine closely your use of, tense, number and gender before forming sentences.

Also how is that xenophobic societies, such as Japan are so productive scientifically and technologically.

Could it be the more reasonable explanation that current western cultural norms is areas of higher education, academia etc etc value inclusiveness/tolerance lack of racial prejudice.

It's a cultural trait not a rational position.


This is why ideologues will never be rational they assume that their current values must be THEE most right and accurate conception of reality that ever was.

Everyone can do naive psychology. As soon as the research program started to hit real problems, rather than just "dude people don't like being shocked," it rapidly ran into difficulties with how strong experimental bias was and how complex the involved systems were. This led to a massive pileup and a takeover of the field by unscientific charlatans, and it's why there's a crisis in the field right now over the basic legitimacy of almost all psychologists.

Incidentally, if you really believe what you said then you're a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge part of the problem.
