Why is it believed all life needs water? We disregard some plants as being a potential source for alien life because there is no water. Saying ALL life everywhere is like looking in an aquarium seeing every fish has gills and saying everything living must have gills. The sample size is just too small. If there is life that doesn't use water at all then it would be drastically different than us. I just find it idiotic that we generalize life by water when all we have is this one planet basing that off of.

Why is it OP thinks people believe all life needs water? We disregard some people are intelligent enough not to make assumptions. Saying ALL people everywhere thinks this is like posting on 4chan, seeing a bunch of trolls and assuming all humans are trolls. The sample size is just too small. If there was life that don't make idiotic assumptions then it would be drastically different OP. I just find it idiotic that OP generalizes people by his own inane assumptions when all he has is this one wiki article basing that off of.

Why do we think all life needs D/RNA? Can't their store their genetic information in some other way? We can use bits in order to store data so why can't their be forms of like that store their data electrically or magnetically within their bodies? What if they don't look anything like life? What if they're rocks that get hit by lightning storms a lot?

What if everything is alive and we just can't tell?

since water is a non-viscous and fairly unreactive polar solvent that is abundant in the universe, it is an excellent substance for promoting life. you are right in that where there is life, there does not have to be water. however, where there is water, there is certainly a good chance for finding life.
