What does the Harvard admissions team want from applicants? What can I do to better my chances?

I don't have any family that has gone to Harvard, but I'm academically successful and my family has some money. I was more looking for things that are not quite so obvious as grades or connections.

In china and india, the rich family's hire someone who creates fake transcripts, often working with the high school, so that the student will definitely get into w/e university he/she pleases

I hate this leadership crap that gets touted all though school.

People who label themselves leaders and attend leadership camps are often useless in just about any situation. Productive people doing obviously interesting work don't bother yapping about their leadership abilities.

My friend Rancho's family went one step further. They sent their gardener's kid to university to get a degree in Rancho's name.

OP here. My great-great-grandmother was Inuit. Probably not worth mentioning though, unless I did something like a trip up north and cited my ancestry as the reason for it.

My professor was a Harvard administrator on the admissions board.
He told me that the board looks for hard workers with personalities, and the letters you send should show you personality.

OP still here. Can anyone think of any other areas to focus on, beyond demonstrating leadership abilities, being academically well-rounded, taking part in extracurricular activities, and being a "hard worker with a personality?" Playing some kind of a race card doesn't really sit right with me, to be honest.

For undergrad? Doesn't really matter. Only major where undergrad reputation really matters is finance

Graduate school? Depends entirely on what you're going for

That's true about China. Roughly 75 percent of Chinese applications to foreign universities are faked in some regard. I was once asked by a Chinese friend to edit the application of her friend. She basically wanted me to edit three recommendations she wrote for herself. Each letter said things like, "...was my best student, and solved difficult problems with ease...she is academically gifted and a match for Stanford because...". I refused to write it actually.

Harvard is shit.

If you want to impress the admission's person, make your application stand out.
I mean, basically write like you're raging in a 4chan thread.
Tell them exactly who you are. Tell them your weird secrets. Write in a way that lets them connect.
