Well it's more of a departmental issue than a science in general issue. The physics department is noticeably weak, with a limited selection in classes and questionable professors from my experiences. We do have a summer research program but even then it is pretty competitive and difficult to get in.

One problem is that the campus sucks - There's surprisingly little to do despite being in a major city. Drexel doesn't really provide much free stuff to do for students, and Penn doesn't share its resources. Most bands that tour in the area end up just outside the city or over the bridge in NJ (Once in a blue moon a good indie band will hit one of the venues that are actually IN the city but it's rare). The nearest grocery store is a 20+ minute walk from campus and the bus that goes there makes a million stops along the way so it's not much faster.

Another issue is that the professors all seem to bolt out of classes as soon as they're over. There's no time to meet any of them to try to get in on research projects, etc. I'm in the BS/MS program (3rd year EE student) and want to do some research to work with that but I don't know any faculty. Plus co-op makes it hard to make a lasting impression since at best they see you half the year.

Academics wise it's probably not actually bad, but I find the classes to be fairly easy. But, the horror stories I could tell of the morons in the 1st and early 2nd year engineering courses.

I mean, it's not THAT bad. But I was also accepted to schools that I think were probably better, so I somewhat regret my decision.
