>ITT YFW You learned that Jesus was never a real person and is a fictional character in a book of lies designed to manipulate and control the population.

Proof?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jesus_Mysteries
The authors propose that Jesus did not literally exist as an historically identifiable individual, but was instead a syncretic re-interpretation of the fundamental pagan "godman" by the Gnostics, who were the original sect of Christianity. Orthodox Christianity, according to them, was not the predecessor to Gnosticism, but a later outgrowth that rewrote history in order to make literal Christianity appear to predate the Gnostics.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_myth_theory
"The Gospel account of Jesus is so full of myth and legend that determining the historical accuracy of anything reasonably close to the man described is impossible."

At this point you must be saying, "this guy is crazy, everybody knows Jesus is real." This is part of a propaganda technique known as "The Big Lie" (a lie so "colossal" that no one would believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously.")

there might have once been a really cool guy named jesus, so his friends passed down stories of him through the generations and over time he became the son of god

not even, he is just a character in a book

yeah but that doesn't mean there might not have existed some particular person that the later stories could have been based off of. of course the supernatural jesus is a fantasy, but i'm talking about a regular guy that was turned supernatural in the stories made about him. like in the movie "big fish"

There was probably a guy named "Jesus Christ". Hell, more than one guy in fact. Jesus was a pretty common name in Roman times, and it's not inconceivable that at least one of them may have had the surname "Christ"

The rest goes without saying.

Christ is not a literal name... Just means "anointed one" in Greek.

Anyways the bible goes out of its way to fulfill prophecies using spotty logic, so much so that most scholars agree that a "Jesus of Nazareth" was a real person.

A Wikipedia summary of a book is proof now?

And I suppose all other religions were created to exert control over people too?

>> No.4254335

There was probably a person or persons who preached the ideas that would eventually get passed by word of mouth to the many people who wrote the bible. Whether this person or any of these people had the name Jesus or came from Nazareth, or even claimed to be the Messiah, who knows.

There were many people who claimed to be the messiah, and several of them had cults, claim they did miracles, etc, etc. Jesus was just the cult that got the most steam.

>>4254324

All religion is a tool to calm the masses.

Without religion to "cover it", life is endless questioning, which in many people, causes mental unrest.

I know you think you're incredibly topical and you've stumbled upon something crazy, but if you read the Egyptian Books of the Dead, you'll find a character that is almost like Jesus. That being said, this is /sci/ not /rel/.
