Hey \sci\, I was wondering for the sake of argument:
How fast does water come out of water jet cutters?

The strongest jets on the market (according to wikipedia) are 100,000psi and 689MPa. I'm not sure what MPa is either. Also, I'm looking for this in meters per second.

Pic related mfw someone said that a stream of blood traveling 980m/s would just "splash" into metal. Pretty sure that it would damage the metal, but I could just be way underestimating the speed of the water jet streams.

What, same thing?

You'd have to figure out how much water or blood was hitting the metal.

Just like a bicycle going 10mph that hit me might just leave a bruise. But a car going 10mph would break some bones.

At 100x earth's gravity the blood is just dripping onto the floor.

speed = [volume/second]/[cross section area]

oops, didn't know it had the thing from my email link in the address

OP, MPa is the SI unit for pressure, in MEGA FORM ;)

Mega Pascals.

A pascal is a Newton per square metre. (Force/Area = Pressure)

Ha, I get why >>4240404 pointed that out then.

The water jet cutter I have used has a hopper full of grit attached called garnet. After cutting sheet material, I typically hose off a red layer of grit from the remainder, and some of the parts. Anyway, there's quite a bit of sand in the waterjet flow.

And then a car falling in 100x Earth's gravity... does what?

The different masses change the situation.

So, the water isn't moving as fast at it looks? Don't entirely get the connection. What about the jets companies use to cut sandwiches, do they also use sand?

It means the car is accelerating at 980m/s/s.

Normally, I care about cutting rate, not how fast the water is moving. But having looked it up, it seems that the stream travels nearly the speed of sound. Also, that food cutters are run without grit.

Can you link me? I actually look for answers before asking, but I couldn't find anything.
