I live in nevada. Gambling is legal here and it pays for about 40% of my education.

A few years back, there was a physicists convention in las vegas. The news papers the following week had the headlines "Physicist's convention in Vegas. City gets lowest take ever. Convention asked to not return."
OP's picture isn't terribly far from the truth. The house always time approaches infinity, but physicists are good at beating the Standard deviation and stopping when their random walk has reached its peak.

In New Jersey it's illegal for any casino to throw out a patron on the grounds of counting cards, Las Vegas does not have this protection.
