Not all of them, probably, but most of them. Looks like I got a C in math, which is a huge relief. Almost guaranteed an A in physics. Organic chemistry is very likely going to be a D, unless the professor decides to be incredibly merciful.

i live in a triple (dorm), had the final at 7:30 AM, alarm clock was set for 6. i slept through my alarm, my friend turned it off without waking me up as well, so i woke up at 9 AM and had completely missed it. emailed my chem teacher, my advisor (who was my chemical engineering teacher) and my chem TA. my advisor talked to my chem teacher about it and my chem teacher was able to give me an incomplete and instead of having to retake the course, I just have to retake the final in march. I don't think anyone implied anything. We're just looking at the facts -- you are an undergrad at a joke of a school. Your coursework is shit and is laughable.

You point to a graduate ranking of your school. You know what makes those rankings? The faculty. Not the classes (yes, even graduate classes). So unless you're doing a publishable research with the *faculty*, those rankings mean nothing in your context.

TLDR: Enjoy being an academic scrub failure at a joke of a program. So again, might as well go kill yourself regardless of your gpa.

NYU is at least on the tables. It has a great applied mathematics department and is good in business, economics, and law. Those departments do hold weight.

i do try to do as good as possible in my classes, though. in the strength of materials class i received nearly 100% due to the professor giving us extra points on the third exam and final exam since the averages on both the first exams were around 60% and he didn't want to curve. In physics graduate school, two classes is more than enough. The requirement for funding is 9 credit hours. Each of those classes was a 4 credit hour class. Also, i can make research take anywhere from 23 hours to 1 hour, depending on how much emphasis i want on my research.

The general mantra is that 2 classes is by far enough work for each semester. A third class is only for people who are on fellowship, and thus have only a GPA to maintain, and not a TA or RA position that takes up the rest of their time.

To those of you who are not doing as well as you want, and feel like you are retarded, let me give you a possibly inspirational story.

I had a 2.45 GPA from a good physics undergraduate school. I am now in graduate school working towards my Ph.D. in physics. I got a 30th percentile on the physics GRE.

By rights, I should not have made it into graduate school. But, I was resourceful enough to make some connections with people at various places, and low and behold I got into graduate school. Now I am making B's and above and doing great research.

The only limiting factor in your success is your determination to succeed, friends.

There were many, many people smarter than me who didn't make it through the undergraduate physics program at my alma mater. There were plenty of people way more qualified than me who didn't get into graduate school in physics.

The only real determining factor in your success in academia is the amount of effort you are willing to put towards your success. If you are determined, you WILL succeed. I had the determination to finish. I did everything within my power to make it though, and low and behold I did.

Good luck, fellow /sci/entists.

Precalc is strictly easier than Calculus. In Calc 1-3, you use the tools you learned in pre-calc. Too many people think of Calc as wikipedia level shit, like solving rational integrals. Real calculus involves proofs like the problems in this book.

cool story inc.

got decent grades in first semester of college (A's and B's)
second semester fucked up, depression and 0 studying, skipping all lectures, etc. Failed differential equations & linear algebra (got an E, but that's a gentler way of saying F). Got D on bio2, and C on general chemistry 2.

Got put on probation, international student counselor came and said 'hurr durr we care so much tell us why your grades dropped'.

This semester

Was going to take genetics, organic chemistry, physics 1 and microeconomics this year. Counselor said probation students can't take more than 2 science classes. Ended up taking just 3 classes, genetics, orgo and microecon. And a 1 credit 'study habits' class but that doesn't really count. Result:

Orgo: B
Microecon: don't know yet, expecting B cause first and final exam were really good
Genetics: Took final today. Was terrible, because I fought for 4-5 hours with girlfriend the day before, got really mad at her and said shit, and managed to only get few hours of sleep when I was already sleepless. Luckily, I had aced the first two exams, the third one was shit too though. We'll see. Expecting a C, but B is definitely possible.
