>that feel when completely bombing a final
I don't expect /sci/ to empathize, but I'd rather bitch about it here than in real life. It was in Physics II by the way..

I know that feel OP. I utterly utterly bombed my vibrations and waves final. Had a low B in the class before. but now I really really think I didn't even make a C and won't even be able to continue my physics major.

This is so unfair too because I feel like I understood the material well enough to go on, but I had my final on Monday along with 2 other finals. I spent most of my time studying for them. The final week of classes I was extremely busy with everything else and couldn't study then.

I thought finals week was supposed to be a fucking finals WEEK. as in we'd have at least a little bit of fucking time to study. God.

> won't even be able to continue my physics major.

why won't you be able to continue it?

cheer up. failing one class doesn't automatically exempt you from being a physicist, you know. at least, i don't know what university actually does that.

here, at my uni, it literally takes like 3+ fails for the department to drop you.

I'd have to retake it if I want to continue. the class is only offered once a year, so I'd have to wait a whole year.

and I'm already a junior. I guess I could still get a BA, but there's no hope of getting a BS unless I stay like 6 years.

>> No.4137606

91.7 is my overall class average (which they do tell you) and they don't round up. I'd love to go to your university though, since it seems that they round up there.

and if this story was actually true, you could send your prof an email saying, hey I was .3% away from an A. Can you just give it to me?

If you're not too much of an awkward faggot chances are they would.

if you're already a junior, take some extra classes in physics(electives) and wait your senior year to retake that class.

seriously bro, keep the hope alive. i know that feel about once a year courses, though. i was lucky to get into some of mine this year.

also,
>six years

c'mon, it can't be that long. since you're a junior, i'm sure you've taken an excessive amount of your cores and other classes already. the BSc needs a few science courses so, while you wait to retake that physics class, load up on them. bio, chem , organic chem, etc. it'll also give you an inch up against physicists who just have the BA.

I just looked into it and actually...you know...you're right. I could stay another year and still easily do both a physics and math degree.

but fuck, the shame man. the SHAME.

of having to retake a class. I was already gonna stay 5 years to double major in math, and I just worked it all out and you're right, I still could do it with ease even if I had to retake it.

but god. my GPA is bad enough as it is and now this on my record. What hope is there for the future?

>> No.4137762

University isn't like high school where people actually care if you graduate in 4 years. Lots of people end up doing things like co-op programs that push you over that deadline automatically anyway.

>>4137754

Does your university count other attempts at a course in your GPA if you retake the course? You might want to check to make sure of that as well.

>> No.4137768

>>4137762
What sort of deadline are you talking about? If you take longer than four years is it some sort of mark on your record? Does it change what sort of degree you graduate with or something?

>> No.4137784

>>4137762
i think it averages them.

>> No.4137798

>>4137768

There is no deadline. What I'm talking about is just a virtual deadline that some people place on themselves for whatever reason. As far as I know at most universities you can take as long as you want to finish your undergrad (however usually you're only considered a full time student if you're taking so many classes in a term).

Graduate programs however sometimes do specify that you have to complete them within so many years.

>> No.4137806

If you've done well in most of your upper-division electives (E&M, QM, Stat. Mech, etc.) I see no reason why you should give up your physics major over one failed class.

>> No.4137821

>>4137806
well i've gotten 2 Cs in other physics classes already. and I've only made one A in a physics class so far.

the future does not look bright for me. Kinda the reason i'm pulling this math double major thing...at least i do a bit better in math...want to keep options open. I really really love physics though

>> No.4137848

I'm not sure about the American system (I just take a guess here and say you're an US student), but I've bombed 3 out of my 68 exams during my diploma studies in physics.

No big deal.

I just took the exams again and that was it. During my job interviews, no one even cared about my grades, I wasn't even asked.
