How does an electron change when it's given more energy? Does its average distance from the nucleus increase up to the energy where the atom becomes ionised or what?

>> No.4108601

If it receives energy equal to it's ionization energy, then yes. Otherwise it may just jump across election shells

>> No.4108602

In stationary states, such as orbiting a nucleus, energy stored by an electron will only increase if it is given particular quantities.
In non-stationary states, the electron just starts moving faster

It starts jumping around like a little hyperactive faggot.
