Ok, so... what if I wanted to have a child, but I wanted that child to have only 50% of the pain sensitivity that I have?

In other words, when I would feel a pain intensity of some measure, my child would feel half as much pain instead.

How would I do that?

Beat them daily without any anger, say it's out of love.

I doubt that works. I was more thinking about biological setup, maybe gene selection or some such.

Any scientific ideas?

Nerve desensitization works.

you feel pain cuz your body have some special modifications of skin to do this ( like Paccini, Rufinni, etc). you just have to cheat life while the dude is in fetus and make that some genes dont express, making just normal skin ( with queratinocits, melanocits, langerhans cells, etc), and voila!

Have a ginger child. That's probably the best you can do today.

Good luck with the whole soulless thing though.

>Gingers have been scientifically show to tolerate more pain.

Is that true? I read on wiki once that training to tolerate pain actually doesn't decrease pain sensitivity. Do you have a link for evidence?

>>4100279
Interesting. Surely this doesn't have much to do with hair color. Genetic makeup maybe?

>>4100253
Is that applied externally, such as on local skin, or is this something more central like a spinal intervention? Are there more direct ways to affect pain in the brain, like meds during pregnancy to affect brain function?

>>4100258
I wouldn't want them to be completely painless, just discount the sensitivity by a fixed percentage. Also, it should ideally work for internal organ pain or phantom limb pain etc. An intervention on the brain region to encode this seems most promising.

We feel the amount of pain we do when we get is hurt so we know how serious something is, if someone broke their leg, but it only felt half as bad, they might try and walk on it or something they wouldnt do with the full feeling and cause more damage.

you can do this in a easy way. here is an example dude: when you receive pain, you can rub your hand were you receive it, and the pain starts going. this is because pain travels slower than the sensation of "rub", why? cuz mielinization of the axons of the nerve. this is due to Schwann cells, that envolve and do this. Schwann cells come from the neural crest.
if you just simply wipe away any Schwann cell from the nerves that induce pain ( due to the corpusculs in the skin that are neuroreceptives), and put more in nerves that take away pain, you could avoid pain in a efective way.

that or im just talking shit yo'

in that case man, you should fuck up with the alar plaque of the rombencefal ( that divides then in mielencefal and metencefal), where the shit starts. make it a little smaller, with less conections.

I postulate that we don't need the full amount of pain we have. That's just evolution whipping us around unnecessarily, because it can and doesn't care if we like life or not.

If 50% is not enough, make it 75% or something. Maybe with a cap that takes the edge off extreme agony.

When I think about having children and then I imagine what they could experience if they are tortured or kidnapped or in an accident or burn alive etc, I feel very discouraged about the project.

that can make the person blind, or even a bit retarded. you must do this, but in the spinal medul, from like C1 to L3. that way you dont fuck up with the cranial nerves of the special sense. this can have serious problems with the simpatic system, so you must do it really specific. other option is make that the ectoderm, in the fetus make just half or even less nocireceptos ( receptors of pain that work even in the internal organs), by simple genetic engineer of metilating some genes in specific parts of the skin and organs.
