It's a gut-retching feeling that makes you want to light a firecracker under your tongue and blow your jaw off, that's for sure.

This.

OP, you must be taking a social science or something. Every real /sci/entist I know would love to pick the brain of someone smarter than them.

It's like you get mad at some math problem because you don't know how to do it, I'd get more mad if I do know how to do it because that means I gained no new knowledge from solving the problem.

I want to train under them like a monk disciple trains under his master.

op that's a shitty attitude if you are actually interested in expanding your knowledge and improving your mind. It sounds to me that you see your intelligence as a kind of identity. If you only define yourself in this way then you're no different from some gym rat posting in /fit/ about developing huge pecks and biceps instead of a well-port proportioned and flexible body

Well I like computer networking, security and all that and I even got a 3.9GPA so I'm pretty good at it. The problem is that I've been looking for a job for a year and a half with no luck; everyone wants 2 years job experience at least.

Might as well go back to school for something else I like. I count myself as one of the lucky ones because I've had a parttime job(mostly summers) ever since I turned 18 (23 now) so I don't have debt or anything like that.

The worst part is that when women claim they want intelligent guys, they usually mean those kind of guys.

>> No.4096672

Some people don't have much. Sure, basing identity on one thing makes you no better than someone who pins identity on another.
But think about why. Maybe that's their only redeeming thing; in their eyes or maybe in others' as well.

So when you see someone that trumps you in that regard... and gives you a run for your money everywhere else.

Well, that crushes you. Especially if you didn't have much to begin with outside of that one feature that you felt was justified in being proud of.

Egos are funny like that.

Meeting someone younger and taller than me, THAT is gut wrenching. I'm 6'1 and live in a Latino Country, I'm used to being a giant amongst dwarves. But then a Dutch comes along and all I can think of is "Holy shit, he/she is tall"

>that feel when I think about the fact that I have never got to meet somebody as smart as myself.

What decides your worth isn't only your intelligence, it's also what you do with it. Of course though, you may be able to meet someone better than you in everything.
No point in sulking over that if you're still better than the mass (not very hard).

>> No.4096695

I've never met anyone clearly more intelligent than me. When you get up to a certain point, it's really difficult to say one person is more intelligent than another. Someone like perelman, conway, tesla
(if he were alive) etc. might blow me out of the water, but the chances of finding someone like that even in grad school is slim. But when I know people who have a reputation of being smarter than me just because they have a nerdy demeanor, that makes me angry.
