Ah, she also doesn't understand economics.

I would be fairly sad if our university library weren't 24-hours.

This.

Seriously, what?
Its a fucking library, doesn't take much staff to keep it open 24/7.

Universities ALREADY get WAY more money then they need, doing something like a 24/7 library should be common

I never understood people that studied until 3 in the morning, there's no way you're going to remember anything if you can't get proper sleep.

>> No.4093856

Well, we do have libraries open 24/7. But they're kind of the shitty ones. The huge one on campus is only open till 10pm.

Recently I've been sleeping from 5 PM to 11 PM. But before that I would stay up late to do assignments from time to time.

Not that universities should cater to people with stupid schedules like me, but a lot of people crash in the afternoon after pulling all-nighters only to get up later and do work.

Makes sense to me at least.

I dont know about canada, but in usa many schools gets paid money, by the government, to hire student workers, and they usually end up making bullshit positions to meet this need. 24/7 librarirs would probably cost the school nothing but elecyricity.

Class and lab times.

I once walked into the library at 6 am to find one of my class mates half asleep there, he'd been there all night to do the homework, half of which I skip the previous night to my 7-8 hours. In the 2 hours we had the tutorial I did everything he'd done the previous night, I'm not more intelligent than he is, it's just that you can't fucking concentrate without sleep, it's pointless.

university librarian here

I'd be ok with longer opening hours. Nothing as relaxing as walking through the aisles and bookshelves at 8pm in wintertime, outside it's snowing/raining, inside it's warm, the carpet softening my footsteps, seeing the few sleepy students still reading. I take a book that looks interesting from the shelves and head back to my desk (and get myself a mug of hot chocolate milk).

Bliss.

Our local library used to hide the door key under a loose brick on the sidewalk. I never did get the courage for a nightime visit though.

In that capacity it doesn't need staff anyways, save to keep people from stealing books.

I WILL most likely try to go into the Mathematics field. Probably something along the lines of Mathematics and Finances/business whatever the fuck.
