What is your favorite TED talk and why?

Mine is the one by Philip Zimbardo: "Why ordinary people do evil ... or do good"
youtube<com>com/watch?v=OsFEV35tWsg

Such a dark talk that ends on such a nice optimistic note.

zimbardo really let himself go. And I don't know I don't watch a lot of TED and the one's I've watched weren't that memorable. There was a pretty cool one with an 11 year old violinist that was really good though.

Wow, that's difficult. Aside from the many videos which show just cool stuff like new robots, I'm usually into the how tech affects people or how peoples needs influence tech kind of videos. The socio-thenological ones.
Other than that, I really like this one, because the guy is truly more enthusiastic and behind his ideas than other TED speakers

a good portion of them are really shitty, or have absolutely nothing to do with science

They used to be really good. Like, 4 years ago. I think there were just limits to the number of good speakers.

When Dan Ariely came to ASU I recorded it and put it up on youtube here:

He talks about cheating a bit

Yes there's a steep decline in good ted talks. I suggest a similar site www.fora.tv, but it has the
capitalist pig disgusting habbit of actually charging money to let you view some conferences and talks therein.

sux. But it's funny how much it costs to actually participate in a TED talk. No normal single person can afford that.
Maybe this is also related to why the talks aren't as cool anymore. When there are people like Bill Gates talking and on the conference, it's more about networking than doing good or so, then it becomes an institution and a routine thing.
